05 April 2011 - open evening An evening spent with members sharing ideas of how their photography is being used outside of club competitions, and a chance to show this website to members not familiar with it. 1st off was an introduction to Zoom-Album software (free), from which a small personal photo book can be printed. 12 pages of the book are printed onto one sheet of A4 photo paper and about another half sheet needed for the cover images. Some ideas were shown of how to modify the process utilising your own photo paper. 2nd subject was Flickr. As our Club is getting more 'on line', Facebook, Flickr, Twitter and Blogger accounts have been set up to provide a forum for members and none-members, as well as filter more interest to the website and club. Flickr being an 'image sharing' site is huge. The talk here was given by an active member of Flickr, who explained how he shares his interest in photography by being a member of several common interest groups within Flickr. This has helped his photography by having feedback on his images, both good and bad, by people who have similar photographic interests. Settings can be changed on your account (free), to allow just your friends or the whole world wide web to see your handy work. Our member has had his images used by the BBC and local news papers thanks to Flickr. The 3rd main talk was given on the success and pitfalls of on-line high quality picture book printing. There are several providers of this competitive service, examples were given where a 40 page book could cost less than 40 x 8"x10" prints ! Photobox and Blurb books were shown by the author, together with their interestng story, - 'all was revealed ' . To make more room for technical help and practical advice for members - the club is to trial an extended meeting on the 12th April 2011 - to start an hour early. So at 6:45pm a welcomed invite to ask your photography question - this may include computers too. _________________________________________ 22 March 2011 Image of the Year

Pictured above : David Flitcroft, President of the North Wales Photographic
Association, "Ruthin Camera Club held an exhibition of Members' prints at Ruthin Library; the formal opening and Private Viewing took place on Tuesday 6th April and the exhibition will be open until 7th May 2010.It is not often that an exhibition is formally opened by two VIPs, but as the Mayor was delayed in a Committee meeting, the President of the NWPA performed the first ceremony. Mr Flitcroft was familiar with the work of the club having judged a competition recently. He was
complementary on the standard of the work, especially the print "Dark
Satanic Mill" by Jane Edgar, a similar copy of which won the award for
the Best Colour Print in the recent Battle between all the Both Club members and the invited Chairmen of other North Wales clubs considered the evening a success and particularly enjoyed the pleasant social atmosphere of the Ruthin Club; several of the latter proposed recommending the exhibition and associated event to their members." ______________________ 21st March 2007 Patrick Faleur, "The Life and Times of Cartier Bresson" . A lifetime's work condensed into 2 hours, with the aid of digital audio/visual - many thanks to Patrick for giving up his Tuesday night from Chester Photographic Society, and for the many nights spent prepairing this evening's show ! Link to Patrick Faleur website ______________________ 27th Feb 2007 Peter Rees, "Still in the dark". 1st time Peter has been to our club (and the long way round). What a show. This husband and wife team have done this before - the quality of the photos, the variety of the subjects, the story behind the pictures... The humour, would make you think this man isn't serious about his photography, but what he showed us was , if you've worked as hard and as long as he has, and got the results that other people have approved of - then his humour could be seen as Peter sharing his delight with us. Who wouldn't be proud of such a collection. Take a look ar Peter Rees' work by following these links : ______________________ 23rd Jan 2007 Andy Polakowski, "How to Be a Failure (updated!)" 1st Guest speaker for us in 2007 ....but not the 1st time we've seen him at the club, which is no problem because he's still getting better ! Andy has also been to our club in the past to judge, so it's a good opportunity for us to check out his work - and to confirm 'He knows what he's talking about !' On learning that we have the ability to project computer images - Andy informed us of a digital presentation that he has prepered - let's keep our eyes open for that one. ______________________ 20th November 2006 2nd Major Competition "Water" This was a 'full-house' evening, both in numbers of members and number of photo entries. A new all time record of 103 pictures over 5 categories. The judge John Winsor did well to get through so many photographs - giving his comments and reasons for each one. Subjects facing left, mounts and titles of pictures, were all up for criticism with no one reaching 20 - top marks, showing there is quite often room for improvement - but more importantly his honest and blunt comments left you with no doubt when he did like a photograph too.
