Audio/Video help page

 

In December 2007, we had a technical evening showing us (using computers), how to make and view our own digital AV 'shows'.

This page is a guide for you if you need help in locating and installing the programs used in our club evening.

(It doesn't tell you how to use all the programs). All instructions are for the Windows based PCs.

Programs used :

PicturesToExe   

There are a few sites to download this program from. If you are downloading a trial version, it will be free BUT with limited functions.

There are two types of licenses: 

Standard edition — $39 (about £25) Basic edition of PicturesToExe.  (Uprgade to deluxe possible)

Deluxe edition — $75 (about £48)
This edition of PicturesToExe additionally includes VideoBuilder to easily burn slide shows on DVD-Video discs.

Other programs are available, for example ProShow Gold.

This is a very capable program and a link here takes you to a site where you can download and buy for $70 (about £45). ProShowGold

CDex

This free program is one of many, which can change the format of your CD music in to MP3 music, for use in e.g. PicutersToExe

Audacity

This program is free. It allows the user to edit music, record music / voice from an external device e.g. microphone, hi-fi , TV etc as long as your computer has a mic & line-in connections.

Autacity in it's basic form, cannot export MP3 - so a plug-in (free) is needed. Instructions and links are included here, so that you can use it with PicturesToExe.

(some of the downloaded files for the plug-in require that you have the ability to un-Zip files. If in the event you get stuck with this, I have put a link for you to get a free trial of - WinZip here)

In this example, Audacity has been downloaded and installed in the C: directory\Program Files

Next, the plug-in ; After downloading and saving the ' libmp3lame-win-3.97.zip', right click it, and extract to C:\Program Files\Audacity\Plug-in. This will put a file ' lame enc.dll' into a folder where you can find it later.

Start Audacity program. To enable you to export MP3s, click Edit -> Preferences -> File format TAB, go to 'MP3 Export Setup (bottom) click 'Find library' then navigate to c:\Program Files\Audacity\Plug-in\libmp3lame-win-3.97\lame enc.dll. click OK....and your done !
